Evidence-Based Treatment

Opioid Use Disorder
The effects of opioids on pain vary depending on the underlying reason. Opioid use disorder, or OUD, is now recognized by scientists as a chronic illness of the brain that can be brought on by ongoing usage in conjunction with genetic susceptibility and sensitive sociocultural environments. Opioid Addiction Treatment for opioid use disorder, or OUD, is medication-assisted treatment or MAT.
How We Use MAT
A complete agonist, methadone is. Methadone decreases the uncomfortable signs of opiate withdrawal and prevents the euphoric effects of other opioid medications by wholly occupying the mu-opioid receptor. Methadone lasts longer, often 24 to 36 hours, than heroin and other abused opioid agonists, reducing the repeated peaks and valleys linked to drug-seeking behavior. The ideal period for methadone therapy has not been determined. However, methadone maintenance is thought to last at least 12 months.
We Use FDA Approved Medications
There are two significant obstacles to using MAT besides limited insurance coverage and a shortage of skilled medical professionals. The Affordable Care Act requires insurance providers to cover OUD therapy, although it is unclear which services must be paid for. As a result, some patients may only sometimes be covered for pharmacological and behavioral therapy that is best for them.

Drug Rehabilitation
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Opioid addiction treatment, in particular, sometimes requires Medication-Assisted Treatment to cleanse a patient of their addiction. We use the medication to help with opioid addictions and have both a specialty clinic and doctor who will treat patients addicted to opioids.
Recovery Clinic
Our MATs help ensure success after rehab and have been studied extensively. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the addition of MATs to regular counseling and rehab treatments has been shown to improve the survival rates of patients, increase retention in treatment, and improve patients’ ability to maintain employment.

How does Suboxone aid in addiction recovery?
Suboxone, a medication made from buprenorphine and naloxone, plays a key role in helping individuals overcome opioid addiction. At Emmaus Medical & Counseling, we specialize in Suboxone treatment at our Bulls Gap, Johnson City, and Weber City locations. Our approach includes medical support, counseling, and relapse prevention, helping patients regain control of their lives and move forward with confidence.
Whether you’re in northeast Tennessee or southwest Virginia, our Suboxone clinics offer convenient access to expert care — including virtual visits and walk-in availability at select locations.
