What Virtual Patients Say

Real stories from patients who chose virtual care β€” and what changed for them.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

I'm a single mom and I work two jobs. There was no way I could keep up with appointments at a clinic. Doing this from my phone on my lunch break has saved my recovery β€” and probably my job.

β€” Sarah, Emmaus Virtual Patient
β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Emmaus gave me a way to get help without putting my life on hold. The virtual program was easy to access, and the support I received was both professional and genuinely caring. It made a real difference in my recovery.

β€” Jake, Emmaus Virtual Patient
β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Emmaus's virtual addiction program made getting help simple and accessible when I needed it most. The convenience of virtual care allowed me to stay consistent with treatment while balancing my daily life. Even through a screen, the support felt personal and genuine.

Common Questions About Virtual Care

If you don't see your question here, just call us β€” we're happy to talk through anything.

Is virtual care as effective as in-person?
For most addiction treatment, yes. Research consistently shows that telehealth MAT has comparable outcomes to in-person care for many patients. Your provider will tell you honestly if your situation would be better served in person.
Will my insurance cover telehealth visits?
In most cases, yes. Medicare, Medicaid, TennCare, and most commercial plans cover telehealth at the same rates as in-person visits. We'll verify your benefits before your first appointment β€” it's free and takes about 2 minutes. Verify your insurance β†’
Can I get MAT through a virtual appointment?
Yes. We can prescribe and manage Medication-Assisted Treatment through telehealth in most situations. State and federal regulations may require occasional in-person visits depending on your medication and treatment phase β€” we'll explain what applies to you upfront, so there are no surprises.
What if I live outside Tennessee or Virginia?
Our providers are licensed in TN and VA, so we can only treat patients located in those states at the time of your appointment. If you live elsewhere, we can help you find a trusted provider in your area.
What if my technology fails during a session?
It happens, and it's no problem. If you get disconnected, your provider will call you on the phone to continue or reschedule. You'll never be charged for a session that gets cut short by tech issues.
Do I need to be on video, or can I just do audio?
Video is preferred β€” it helps your provider read body language and connect more fully. But if video isn't possible (poor signal, limited data, or privacy concerns), audio-only appointments may be available depending on your treatment type.
Is virtual care private and HIPAA-compliant?
Yes. We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform that encrypts all sessions. Your conversations stay just as confidential as they would in our office. Substance use disorder treatment also has extra federal privacy protection under 42 CFR Part 2 β€” your treatment cannot be disclosed without your written consent.
How much does virtual care cost?
Most patients with Medicaid, Medicare, or TennCare pay $0 out-of-pocket. For self-pay, our virtual visit rates match our in-person rates: $150 for initial intake, $100 for weekly visits, $150 for biweekly, $250 for monthly. We'll verify your benefits for free.
Can I start with virtual care, or do I need an in-person visit first?
It depends on your situation. Some patients can begin care entirely virtually; others may need an initial in-person visit based on their treatment plan and state regulations. We'll let you know upfront during your first call so you can plan accordingly.
Are virtual appointments the same length as in-person?
Yes. Virtual appointments follow the same structure and duration as in-person visits. The only thing that changes is your location β€” you're at home, work, or wherever is convenient for you, instead of in our office.
